Prescott Frontier Days®, Inc.Prescott, AZ
WORLD'S OLDEST RODEO®. There has been a Fourth of July Rodeo in Prescott since 1888 when merchants and citizens wanted to plan a week-long event for the surrounding communities to come and enjoy. The first rodeo was initially called a "Cowboy Tournament"; admission was charged to help pay for prizes and meet other expenses. Early cowboy contests were bronc riding, steer roping, and cow horse racing. Attendance at that first rodeo was probably around 2,000. This date has become the birthday of professional rodeo. Since 1888, the rodeo has grown into a multi-million dollar enterprise encompassing 50 states. The Prescott Frontier Days® Rodeo delivers top-notch entertainment, exciting sports competition and old-fashioned hospitality. The World’s Oldest Rodeo® includes eight performances which take place over six days. The scheduled dates are June 30 through July 5, 2004 inclusive. All rodeo events commence at 7:30pm except for the Third and Fourth of July when their are additional rodeo events beginning at 1:30pm.
