Prescott Frontier Days®, Inc.Prescott, AZ
WORLD'S OLDEST RODEO®. There has been a Fourth of July Rodeo in Prescott since 1888 when merchants and citizens wanted to plan a week-long event for the surrounding communities to come and enjoy. The first rodeo was initially called a "Cowboy Tournament"; admission was charged to help pay for prizes and meet other expenses. Early cowboy contests were bronc riding, steer roping, and cow horse racing. Attendance at that first rodeo was probably around 2,000. This date has become the birthday of professional rodeo.
